Many Americans have fond memories of eating Goldfish crackers as a kid and even pretending the crackers were actual fish swimming through bowls of chili and soup.
Now, Goldfish crackers has added Goldfish Mega Bites to its roster of more than 20 cracker varieties.
Mega Bites offers a “bigger, bolder, cheesier ‘reboot’ of the classic Goldfish that kids of all ages have enjoyed for nearly 60 years,” Pepperidge Farm says in a statement. The new cracker is 50 percent larger than regular Goldfish and available in Sharp Cheddar and Cheddar Jalapeno flavors. It’s a permanent addition to the lineup.
Goldfish launched in 1962 in the United States and were first supposed to be a snack paired with cocktails, showing up at pubs, bowling alleys, dinner parties and beyond. However, as the popularity of the snacks grew, kids came onboard. Goldfish became a hugely popular kids’ snack when smiles were added to many of the crackers in 1997. Today, the crackers are still popular with both kids and adults.
Today, adults actually consume 40% of all Goldfish sold. Mega Bites were created to “satisfy the adult-sized cravings of these longtime Goldfish fans.”
“This is the first time Goldfish has created a snacking experience specifically with ‘Grown Up’ tastes in mind,” Janda Lukin, Chief Marketing Officer of Campbell Snacks said in a statement.
Lukin added, “We’re at the start of a new chapter for the brand and are expanding our offerings and appeal to all age groups—in the college dorm, snacking at your desk, wherever that is these days—while remaining a snack for all families. We’re excited to keep creating bold and playful snacks and experiences.”
Goldfish Mega Bites are currently being distributed to major retailers which sell Goldfish. The crackers’ suggested retail price is $2.69 per 5.9 oz. bag. For more information, head to the Pepperidge Farm website.
