The holidays are in full swing, and after not being able to do many festive things last year, the 2021 season seems like a perfect time to fully enjoy Christmas.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Holiday Train and Holiday Bus have returned in 2021 with a few pandemic-influenced adjustments. Some of the new requirements include travelers having to wear masks, regardless of age or vaccination status. Strollers are also strongly discouraged, because they take up too much space. Also, Santa will not be taking photos this year.

The CTA Holiday Train opened on Black Friday (Nov. 26) and will run until Dec. 22. Santa and his elves will ride outside the train and mingle with families, which is always fun. To track the train, head to the Chicago Transit Authority website. Search for the candy cane icon to find the Holiday Train, and follow its path.

The CTA Holiday Bus started its season Tuesday (Nov. 30). The bus, affectionately called “Ralphie the Reindeer,” features holiday-inspired seats, a miniature village, lights and more. It’s hitting the streets of Chicago’s neighborhoods now through Christmas Eve.
