Fourth of July is just a few weeks away, and Michigan residents across the state are getting ready with their fireworks and boating plans. So, how patriotic a state is Michigan?

I personally think we’re very patriotic. I was just off Lake Michigan last weekend, and almost every house, cottage and cabin had American flags hanging outside. But, this study says otherwise.

WalletHub.com put together a study of the most patriotic states, using specific criteria for ranking. “In order to determine where Americans have the most red, white and blue pride, WalletHub compared the states across 13 key indicators of patriotism,” they state in the study. “Our data set ranges from the state’s military enlistees and veterans to the share of adults who voted in the 2020 presidential election to AmeriCorps volunteers per capita.”

So, where is Michigan? The Mitten is No. 37 on the list. I thought we’d be at least top 20. The study says Michigan’s “military engagement” number was among the highest of the states at 46, but our civic engagement was low at 25. Find the full study via WalletHub.com here.
