Starbucks, McDonald’s, Pepsi, Coca-Cola Among Companies Temporarily Closing Operations in Russia

Companies in Russia are putting a halt on their services as the war rages on in the Ukraine. McDonald’s today (March 8) announced it is temporarily closing every one of its 850 restaurants in Russia. The news comes after Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Starbucks and more have also announced they will stop operations in Russia.
“Our licensed partner has agreed to immediately pause store operations and will provide support to the nearly 2,000 partners in Russia who depend on Starbucks for their livelihood,” Starbucks said in a statement.
McDonald’s President and CEO Chris Kempckinski send an open letter to employees saying they are closing their Russian stores because McDonald’s is unable to ignore the “needless human suffering in Ukraine.” McDonald’s, however, will keep paying its employees in Russia.
“Our hearts are with the people who are enduring unconscionable effects from these tragic events in Ukraine,” Coca-Cola said in a statement.
Pepsi isn’t halting all business in the country, but most business. The company announced it will continue selling some essential items, such as baby formula, milk and baby food.
They aren’t alone, either. The Yale School of Management reports that around 300 companies have ceased doing business in Russia.
