A new study out by Wishlisted looked at search trends to determine the most popular Christmas movie in each state. The study looked at the top 25 Christmas movies from IMDb’s Top 100 Christmas Movies list and analyzed search popularity data by state from Nov. 24, 2021 to Jan. 2, 2022. That’s the time people watch the most Christmas movies.

From those 25 movies, just eight were voted favorites from the states: “Die Hard,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Gremlins,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Love Actually,” “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “The Shop Around the Corner.” That begs the annual question, is “Die Hard” a Christmas movie? Apparently so.

“Christmas Vacation” was the most popular movie in many states, coming out No. 1 in 40 states, including Michigan. Our Midwest neighbors, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The comedy stars Chevy Chase as an overzealous Christmas enthusiast.
